This twelve-week strength and conditioning program is targeted specifically for young hockey players that are serious about elevating their game. The program is a comprehensive system that will build young skaters gradually in the areas of flexibility, strength, speed and agility. All workouts are monitored and managed by professional strength coaches and supervised by some of the industry’s best trainers. We firmly believe in quality training and are committed to providing that product by maintaining small group sizes while catering training to individual athletes based on their assessments.
5 DAY OFF-SEASON TRAINING SUMMARY:
- Program starts Monday May 29th, 2017
- Functional Assessment/Fitness Test for each athlete (pre & post program)
- Individualized mobility/corrective workbook based on assessment
- 5 training sessions per week (Monday to Friday) for 12 weeks
- 90 to 120 minute sessions
- 6:1 athlete to trainer ratio
- Athletes are grouped according to age and availability
- Healthy Eating guide for each player
Each training session will be divided into three components:
- Soft tissue / Flexibility / Mobility – Movement preparation
- Strength / Skill – Linear / Multidirectional movement
- Dynamic power development / Plyometrics

Program Director: Ryan van Asten
Ryan van Asten is in his fifth season as an NHL Strength and Conditioning Coach and is responsible for coordinating the overall strength and conditioning program for all of the players in the organization.
van Asten spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings as their Strength and Conditioning Coach winning two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014. He was also the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Coordinator for Hockey Canada and the Canadian Sport Centre – Calgary where he was part of the 2010 Olympic gold medal championship women’s hockey team in Vancouver. Along with the Olympic gold medal, van Asten was fortunate to be a part of three World Championship teams and multiple (10) World Cup medal winners in hockey and luge.
van Asten is a graduate of the University of Calgary where he earned a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences and a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP).
